Ceòl Mòr Ostaig celebrates the vital contribution Sabhal Mòr Ostaig continues to make to all aspects of contemporary Gaelic culture. Scotland’s Gaelic college on the Isle of Skye is now in its 45th year. This event features Traditional Music Degree students and a host of artists with strong connections to the college.

 

Mary Ann Kennedy is a multi-award-winning musician, singer, broadcaster, conductor, composer and producer who has long been a mentor and inspirational figure to SMO students. Ceòl Mòr Ostaig will see Mary Ann perform favourites from her extensive back catalogue alongside tracks from her newly released solo album ‘An Dàn’.

 

An Cùrsa Ciùil / Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. A massed band of students from the BA Gaelic and Traditional Music Degree course will take the stage to perform a selection of Gaelic songs and traditional airs. An Cùrsa Ciùil showcases the fantastic level of musicianship being nurtured at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.

 

SIAN Eilidh Cormack, Ellen MacDonald and Ceitlin Smith are three of the finest young singers on the contemporary traditional music scene. They have joined forces as SIAN to celebrate the legacy of the female Gaelic bardic tradition. For this event they will be accompanied by Craig Irving of Mànran. 

 

Murdo L  Spoken word poet Murdo L MacIver debuts his latest work which promises to challenge the audience perception of the power of the spoken word. Amongst the subjects covered are relationships, love, technology, language and life as a poet on the edge.
